end of autumn

Being so busy with work & school the past couple of months, I never posted about my visit with my friend Lauren at Wingate University. Lauren & I go back quite a few years and always manage to have some sort of adventure when we're together. The day I spent in Wingate was a gorgeous Autumn day spent by a pond, at a hilariously terrible opera, and with friends for a Thanksgiving potluck.

Lauren loves Audrey, turquoise, peacocks, music, owls, and black out poetry. Oh, and we love champagne.
I also had two little kitties for a few days this month. My friend Suzanne wanted to give her daughter, Ollie, kittens for her 3rd birthday and I found a couple in Raleigh. They were adorable and fun to have around, I know Ollie loves them and that they love their new home.

Halloween was fun. I took Jadon trick or treating - he was a bat! Later I ate lots of yummy pumpkin oatmeal white chocolate chip cookies and other tasty treats at a get together at Sarah's. mmmm. Baby Jack was an ewok, his bear outfit modified a bit. There was pumpkin carving and marshmallow roasting and trick or treaters!

So many happenings in the past month or so. Here's a little photo update of my life:
Kat & I went to Kenly at sunrise one morning to take photos of the perfectly blooming cotton fields.

My friend Sarah had a beautiful baby boy named Jack.

And this weekend my friends Myranda & Ben were married. The wedding was absolutely gorgeous and wonderful, just as they are. I wish I had taken more photos, but I felt strange since someone was there for the purpose of photographing the event.

There are more photos of the past month on my flickr, but those are the highlights. School is kicking my butt, fall break started today, at 11:05 for me. I had lunch & coffee at Helios with Sarah and baby Jack this afternoon for Sarah's 20th birthday. Tonight I'm going to see Deer Tick in Carrboro with Vanessa & Kat, should be great.

summer's ending

Neglect. This and several other little things have been suffering my neglect this summer. For instance, my bedroom has been, more often than not, quite a mess all summer, which is so strange for my compulsively organized self. However, the small neglects served as a trade off for some really great times spent with friends in the past few months. I reconnected with a handful of people whose company I feel I missed out on the past several years. Tomorrow I'm moving to Raleigh, and I feel that I'm part of friendships that will follow each of us for some time, however different the places we find ourselves this year may be.

It's been a whirlwind summer, what with transferring universities, the countless phone calls and emails to different people necessary for said transfer, figuring out a living situation (with my aunt, uncle, and 2 year old cousin for the time being) and finding a job in Raleigh (re-hired with Gap at the Crabtree Mall), being a nanny for two boys, ages 7 and 5, driving all over the state, and still finding time to spend with my new kitten, to don mustaches and go out for a friend's 21st birthday, time to spend at playgrounds late at night, time for conversations and baking and finding comfort in falling asleep beside another body.
Each time I gave thought to blogging, I decided against it. Rather than fall asleep before 2a.m., I stay up reading the lovely blogs of strangers, and theirs are satisfying enough. I haven't kept up with flickr either, my pro account expired and I don't mind.
But as the summer is officially ending and a brand new semester in a brand new city begins the day after tomorrow, I thought I'd mention a few things I loved this summer.

1. finding a new kitten
As of now, his name is Ollivander.

2. meeting new people and hanging out in Hickory

3. Vanessa! (& mustaches)

4. precocious 7 year olds (and their siblings)
summer girl

5. all the neat things to find on pinterest (and "pinning" away!)

6. scrapbooking like mad

7. forgetting a bit more every day

8. cherry vanilla slushes from Shell's BBQ in Hickory (oh, how I miss thee each school year)

9. jamming to Girl Talk and the Glee soundtrack while driving (have I mentioned I'm of the singalong variety?)

With any luck, this fall will be crisp and romantic and lovely.

Bea Kitty

Checked the shelters today :( No sign of Bea, but lots and lots of poor kitties in there. I'd give them all a home if I could.

scrap booking

Polaroid Love

Twentieth Birthday

I scrapbook quite a bit, though I don't blog about it often. Usually I feel silly telling any of my friends, as none of them would entertain the idea of sitting around making layouts into the wee hours of the night :) I also end up feeling very mommy-ish about my hobby, because I have been a nanny for several years, and many of my pages feature the kids. But these two are a couple recent, simple pages.

This weekend was very busy and very fun, hanging out in three different cities with some good friends.
In Hickory, went on a little adventure, complete with sushi, walking downtown, finding swings, and getting ice cream.

Friday we headed to Hillsborough to surprise Justine. Justine works at a restaurant her parents own, Gulf Rim Cafe, in downtown Hillsborough, which is a very Stars Hollow-esque town. They celebrate "Last Fridays" on, well, the last Friday of every month, and downtown is blocked off to cars so vendors line the streets, art galleries are open, kids are running around, multiple bands are playing, and everyone knows everyone. Very cute, and I found lots of things I wish I'd had the money to purchase! On our way back from Hillsborough, what began as light rain turned into a torrential downpour, which stopped, of course, promptly when we arrived at our destination. It was great seeing everyone all together again, hopefully it'll happen a couple more times this summer!

Unfortunately, when I arrived home yesterday, I found out my kitten had been lost. Someone let her outside on accident, and she's been gone for three days. No one told me until yesterday, so I put fliers up around the neighborhood last evening. I don't know what to do. I love Bea to death and it's so strange without her meowing all around my feet.
